A pioneer in this domain, Denmark began blocking 17 years ago and since then more than 200 sites have been added to ISP lists. In September 2022, nine new sites were added, and with targets such as y2mate.com, savefrom.net and loader.to, the focus is on YouTube hacks.<\/p><p>YouTube was indeed listed among the most used &#8220;pirate sites&#8221; by Danish Internet users (along with &#8230; Facebook).\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>In 2018, Denmark became the first country to take blocking measures against YouTube pirates.<\/strong> With the latest court ruling, rights holders hope that it will be harder for the public to download from streaming sites. However, history also shows that blocking is not a quick fix.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bf7607e elementor-widget class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>The United Kingdom managed to have stream-rippers removed from Google search results in September 2022.<\/strong> Indeed, following a blocking order and a request to remove thousands of links leading to such sites, music producers BPI and PPL sent a copy of the UK High Court order to Google, requesting the removal of the listed domains. <strong>Although Google is not legally bound to comply, it has done so voluntarily, but only in the UK.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3f80a7d elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"3f80a7d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" Justice<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5ac6b82 elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"5ac6b82\" class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>However, the European Court of Justice clearly ruled in 2021, following a preliminary question from the German courts, <strong>that YouTube was not <\/strong><em><strong>&#8220;directly responsible<\/strong>&#8220;<\/em> for content posted by users on the platform as long as they played a passive role in not encouraging users to share illegal content.\u00a0<\/p><p>However, the Court clarified that YouTube had an obligation to take action once they became aware of illegal activity. <strong>The platform would then be liable if they refuse to act.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>In June 2022 the German high court counter-attacked<\/strong>\u00a0with a ruling that online video sharing platforms could be held liable for uploading infringing content.
